A Seasonal Kitchen Maintenance Routine for Thai Homes
A short checklist tied to the Thai seasons keeps small problems from becoming expensive ones. What to do and when.

Before the rainy season
Humidity climbs sharply, so this is the moment to check that cupboard ventilation is clear, silicone seals around the sink and splashback are intact, and no plinth or carcass base is already showing swelling at the edges.
During the wet months
Run the extractor longer than feels necessary and air closed cupboards weekly. If the kitchen has a dehumidifier or air conditioning, using it occasionally with cupboard doors open does more good than any product.

In the cool, dry season
This is the right window for anything that needs to dry fully: resealing stone, re-oiling teak, touching up paint and resetting silicone. Work done in high humidity cures poorly and fails early.
Twice a year, whatever the season
Degrease the extractor filters, run the water test on stone, check and adjust hinges, and look under the sink with a torch for the beginnings of a leak. Four tasks, under an hour, and they prevent most of the repairs we are called out for.

The one-hour list
Twice a year: degrease filters, water-test the stone, adjust hinges, torch-check under the sink.
“Nearly every emergency we attend started as something visible six months earlier.”
